Public procurement in Ecuador

Dynamic report.

Public procurement in Ecuador plays a fundamental role in promoting transparency, efficiency and equity in public procurement, which drives the economic and social development of the country, improving productivity and multi-sector economic inclusion.

In 2022, public procurement represented 22.7% of the General State Budget (PGE) and 6.6% of PIB.

With the use of open source data OCDS (Open Contracting Data Standard) obtained from the Servicio Nacional de Contratación Pública del Ecuador (SERCOP) and World Bank Group, the implementation of this project was carried out, which aims to highlight the importance and impact of government procurement in the context of PIB and the unemployment rate in Ecuador.

Additionally, it is possible to project and anticipate trends in public procurement over a period of five years, ensuring that this initiative will become a valuable tool to guide the Public Administration in the formulation of public policies.

This project was developed as part of the competition IAckathon 2023, “Innovando la Contratación Pública con Inteligencia Artificial”, getting the First place in Algorithm and Visualization category (September, 2023). The event was a Fundapi initiative developed with the support of the United States through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Panamerican Development Foundation (PADF) and with contribution of Servicio Nacional de Contratación Pública del Ecuador (SERCOP).
